Data shows that as of the end of July, the mortgage-backed securities (MBS) held by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac dropped to around $155.4 billion, a decrease of approximately $6.3 billion compared to the end of June. In response, the Director of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency, Sandra Thompson, stated that both companies are increasing their mortgage asset purchases and will “make large-scale acquisitions” in the future.
