Ripple president Monica Long announced new plans for integrating credit services into the XRP ecosystem during her speech at XRP Seoul 2026. Long revealed that Ripple is developing solutions that could expand XRP’s utility beyond payments, focusing on payment credit, the XRP Ledger, and the emerging Lending Protocol.
Ripple president Monica Long unveils XRP credit pilot at Seoul event
Payment infrastructure growth and the XRP Ledger
As the global payments company behind the XRP Ledger, Ripple is known for facilitating fast and efficient value transfers across borders using digital assets. Long reported substantial growth in Ripple’s payment infrastructure, with adoption and transaction volumes reportedly increasing tenfold year over year.
She attributed much of this progress to Ripple’s continued investment in its full-stack payments platform, emphasizing plans to move more customer transaction activity onto the XRP Ledger. Ripple intends to leverage RLUSD, its stablecoin, to further deepen customer engagement on the network.
Long also highlighted a pilot project using the XRP Ledger’s native decentralized exchange (DEX) functionality to enhance payment flows. She stated that the pilot is already showcasing benefits for payment settlement and liquidity management.
Introducing credit with the Lending Protocol
Shifting focus, Long introduced Ripple’s efforts to embed credit facilities into its ecosystem. She pointed out that most payment service providers—Ripple’s key customers—commonly use short-term credit to access liquidity across various markets. This enables them to fund operations efficiently throughout the business day.
According to Long, Ripple is collaborating with the Lending Protocol to establish pools where XRP can be supplied as collateral to support short-term funding. She emphasized that this innovation could offer new ways for XRP holders and institutions to provide liquidity that backs real-world payment transactions.
“We’re working with the lending protocol, being able to use pools of XRP that are loaned into the pool to use that XRP as collateral to fund some of those payments for our customers,” Long explained at the event.
The mechanism would allow capital contributed by XRP holders to be lent to payment service businesses. Borrowers would access funding for operations, transact using the liquidity, and then repay the borrowed amount. This process would recycle capital back into the lending pool, creating a continuous cycle of liquidity support.
Mini dictionary: XRP Ledger (XRPL) Lending Protocol, an emerging smart contract system deployed on XRPL, allows users to create lending pools where digital assets like XRP are locked and borrowed against, providing decentralized credit within the network.
Institutional involvement and future outlook
The discussion attracted attention from X Finance Bull, a crypto commentator widely followed on social media, who suggested that credit, rather than just payments, could soon represent the largest use case for XRP. He pointed out that Evernorth, an institutional player, is already incorporating strategies involving the XRPL Lending Protocol and XRP.
If realized, the new model could connect XRP holders and institutions supplying liquidity with payment companies seeking short-term credit. Ripple’s payment customers would generate the demand, while the XRPL and Lending Protocol would provide infrastructure for these transactions.
| Primary function | Payments/Bridge asset | Payments + Credit provision |
| Liquidity source | Direct transaction settlements | Lending pools via XRPL |
| Participant roles | Customers transact using XRP | Holders/institutions lend XRP as collateral for funding |
Long confirmed that Ripple’s credit pilot remains in testing but expressed ambitions to launch it commercially in 2027, potentially transforming how payment companies access working capital using tokenized assets.
Many payments businesses draw on short-term credit, requiring fast access to capital. Integrating XRP-backed lending pools into Ripple’s ecosystem could combine the strengths of decentralized finance and enterprise payments in a new way.
Commentators believe that expanding XRP’s role into payment financing would mark a major evolution for both Ripple’s business model and XRP’s network utility, should the ongoing lending pilot prove successful.

After Toshiba reported news of HDD production expansion, Morgan Stanley turned more bullish rather than bearish.
Morgan Stanley’s research indicates that the market has seriously overestimated Toshiba’s expansion scale — the doubling of capacity at its Philippines plant over two years translates to an annualized growth rate of about 30%, which is similar to the overall industry supply growth rate and far lower than demand growth. More importantly, channel checks show that Seagate and Western Digital have no intention of following suit with capacity expansion, and there are no signs of loosening in industry pricing.

Chung says. The South Korean refiner is a global leader in premium lubricant base oils, producing about 80,000 barrels of Group III base oils a day, Chung writes in a note. She expects the supply shortage of lubricant base oils to persist for more than a year. Tight supply of kerosene and diesel and wider refining margins could also continue to boost the company's earnings, she adds. Its Kulai and Sedenak West hubs offer 2.4GW of potential data-center capacity, while its AI-GPU capacity could scale to 100MW or more and support a new services business. The procurement of seven gas turbines totaling 5.25GW also positions YTL for power-generation growth and supports its expanding data-center pipeline, he reckons. Higher water tariffs and planned treatment plants at its unit Ranhill Utilities should support earnings as Johor's water demand rises, he adds. Hong Leong raises its target price to 8.08 ringgit from 7.58 ringgit and keeps a buy rating. Shares are 1.4% higher at 5.62 ringgit.
