ETFs could see two major catalysts before the end of the year as they become available to more investors on more platforms, said Eric Balchunas, senior ETF analyst at Bloomberg. The first catalyst involves making them accessible to the custody-type industry.Balchunas expects that ETFs should hit these platforms within the next few months. The second catalyst will be the launch of options trading on bitcoin ETFs, and he estimates that ETF-based options will be available in September. Additionally, banks will likely develop structured products around the ETF, and another vehicle will be the 2X Spot Bitcoin ETF, in which swaps are packaged within the ETF.
