Trump: The US Needs to Spend $200 Billion Annually to Subsidize Canada
On May 6, U.S. President Trump stated, "I look forward to meeting with Canada's new Prime Minister, Mark Carney. I am very eager to work with him, but there is a simple truth I cannot understand—why does the United States subsidize Canada $200 billion every year, provide them with free military protection, and many other things?
We don't need their cars, we don't need their energy, we don't need their lumber, we don't need anything they have, except their friendship—hopefully, we can maintain this friendship forever. On the other hand, they need everything we provide! The Prime Minister is about to arrive, and this is likely the only issue I care about."
