According to ChainCatcher, as reported by The Block, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated during a podcast appearance that by the end of 2025, the company will become the largest Bitcoin mining enterprise.

It is reported that Tether, the stablecoin issuer, has a team of fewer than 200 people but generated approximately $13 billion in profit in 2024. In recent years, the company has invested heavily and actively expanded into several other sectors, including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, data centers, energy infrastructure, and Bitcoin mining.

Ardoino noted that Tether’s ambitions in Bitcoin mining are not primarily driven by commercial returns, but rather by a strategic alignment with its core asset exposure. Ardoino recently disclosed that the company holds over 100,000 BTC and needs to join the “Bitcoin mining security team” to help safeguard its Bitcoin investment, which exceeds $10 billion.

The root cause lies in the market’s skepticism toward AI investment returns. The most significant uncertainty is whether aggressive spending by tech giants will actually deliver on profit expectations, while the use of leverage has exponentially magnified the cost of this misjudgment.
