According to ChainCatcher, Hong Kong Cyberport has launched the "Blockchain and Digital Assets Pilot Funding Scheme," which is now open for applications. The scheme will provide financial support to enterprises at the development stage to test high-impact blockchain and digital asset solutions. Each eligible pilot project can receive up to 80% funding, with a maximum grant of HKD 500,000. The funding will be disbursed in two phases: the first phase as seed funding, and the final phase upon completion of the pilot test and confirmation by the sponsoring institution. The application deadline is August 1.

The scheme covers multiple areas, including RWA tokenization, stablecoins and payment solutions, decentralized identity, Web3 security, distributed AI/machine learning (ML), as well as social innovation and digital experience. Enterprises are required to have a sizable institution as their sponsor to demonstrate the commercial viability of their pilot project. Applicants must be companies or research institutions registered and operating in Hong Kong, and must meet the relevant eligibility requirements. The proposed solution must be directly related to a recognized Web3 field and should address real-world challenges faced by relevant institutions in Hong Kong, offering innovative solutions that are not yet available in the market.

Last week, retail investors poured $6.1 billion into 3x leveraged chip ETFs, but suffered a 20.5% single-day plunge this Thursday, almost perfectly coinciding with the start of the rapid downturn. The cumulative decline in October has exceeded 43%, far surpassing the 15.9% loss of non-leveraged products during the same period. The root cause lies in the market’s skepticism toward AI investment returns. The most significant uncertainty is whether aggressive spending by tech giants will actually deliver on profit expectations, while the use of leverage has exponentially magnified the cost of this misjudgment.

Western Digital (WDC.US) CFO refutes claims of AI demand peaking: No signs of weakening, if it cools down it could help us catch up with the demand gap

Western Digital's CFO expressed strong support for AI storage demand, stating that hyperscale cloud providers are continuously increasing capital expenditures and have engaged in discussions regarding supply needs through 2030 to 2031. Although the company's quarterly results exceeded expectations and profit guidance was raised, capital expenditure more than doubled compared to the same period last year, putting pressure on free cash flow. This has sparked concerns in the market about the sustainability of returns on AI data center investments. The stock closed down by about 3% on Friday.
