- Charlie Lee now serves on the board of MEI Pharma
- GSR advises institutional investment in Litecoin
MEI Pharma announced the incorporation of US$100 million in Litecoin as part of its treasury management policy. The decision places Litecoin at the core of the company's financial structure, signaling a significant shift in the institutional use of cryptocurrencies.
Along with the multi-million dollar allocation, the pharmaceutical company confirmed that Charlie Lee, creator of Litecoin, will join the company's board of directors. Lee's presence strengthens the bond between MEI Pharma and the digital currency ecosystem, solidifying its commitment to innovations based on decentralized assets.
The financial movement included the conversion of approximately 29 million common shares of the company into Litecoin, making the cryptocurrency a significant reserve in the company's cash.
GSR, a specialist in digital strategies and market liquidity, will act as a strategic advisor to MEI Pharma. The firm's role will be to guide the management and diversification of digital assets in accordance with corporate guidelines.
Following the announcement, MEI Pharma's shares rose sharply, rising more than 50%. This move was driven by investors' positive response to Litecoin's widespread adoption.
In a public statement, Charlie Lee highlighted the institutional importance of the initiative: "For 14 years, Litecoin has provided a stable, low-cost, and accessible network for millions of people. This partnership with GSR and MEI Pharma brings this utility and mission to an institutional setting for the first time."
The adoption of Litecoin as a reserve asset by a US-listed company represents another milestone in the process of integrating cryptocurrencies into the traditional market, especially in sectors outside the native digital finance environment.
