South Korea plans to impose fines of up to 10% of losses on crypto exchanges that suffer from hacking attacks
ChainCatcher News: According to a bill drafted by the Financial Services Commission, South Korean financial regulators plan to impose fines of up to 10% of the losses suffered by crypto exchanges that fall victim to hacking attacks. Currently, the maximum fine is only $456,000. If the bill passes, for example, a crypto exchange that suffered a $36 million loss last year could face a maximum fine of $3.6 million. In addition, another government proposal is considering imposing fines equivalent to 3% of annual revenue.
Data shows that from January 2023 to September 2025, a certain exchange experienced a total of 20 security incidents involving customer funds.
