December Consumer Price Index Sees Modest Growth
According to the latest report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) climbed by 0.3% in December after seasonal adjustments. Over the past year, the overall index rose by 2.7% before accounting for seasonal changes.
Shelter costs experienced a 0.4% increase during December, making it the most significant contributor to the monthly rise in the index. Food prices also saw a 0.7% uptick, with both groceries and dining out reflecting similar gains. Meanwhile, energy prices edged up by 0.3% for the month. Excluding food and energy, the index posted a 0.2% increase in December.
