Glonghui January 14th|According to foreign media citing sources familiar with the matter, Baidu is considering upgrading its listing status in Hong Kong to a primary listing in order to increase exposure to investors from Mainland China and to proactively prepare for potentially unfavorable US policies. Baidu has a market capitalization of about $52 billion and is currently listed on Nasdaq, with a secondary listing in Hong Kong. This arrangement has enhanced its investability in the Asian market, but since it does not yet meet the requirements for the “Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect” and “Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect” programs, mainland investors are still unable to trade it directly. If Baidu switches to a primary listing, it is expected to meet cross-border trading conditions, thus opening up the investment channel for mainland capital to flow into Hong Kong. According to sources, discussions around this have intensified as Baidu plans to list its subsidiary Kunlun Chip, which is engaged in data center and artificial intelligence chip businesses.
