Glonghui Jan 14th|Baidu (BIDU.US) saw a pre-market surge of over 2%, reaching $152.7. According to media reports citing informed sources, Baidu is considering upgrading its listing status in Hong Kong to a primary listing in order to increase exposure to mainland Chinese investors and proactively guard against potentially unfavorable US policies. Baidu is currently listed on Nasdaq and has a secondary listing in Hong Kong. This arrangement has enhanced its investability in Asian markets, but since it does not yet meet the “Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect” and “Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect” qualifications, mainland investors are still unable to directly participate in trading. If Baidu switches to a primary listing, it is expected to meet cross-border trading requirements, thereby opening the channel for mainland capital to invest in Hong Kong. Sources also indicate that as Baidu plans to list its subsidiary Kunlun Chip, which operates data centers and artificial intelligence chip businesses, discussions around this topic have clearly intensified.
