Manufacturing Sales Experience Further Decline in November
After a 1.0% drop in October, Canadian manufacturing sales continued their downward trend, slipping by 1.2% to reach $70.8 billion in November. This decrease was seen across 15 out of 21 manufacturing subsectors. The most significant reductions came from the motor vehicle sector, which fell by 15.9%, motor vehicle parts, down 6.3%, and machinery, which declined by 3.2%. However, these losses were somewhat balanced by a notable 6.8% rise in petroleum and coal product sales.
Compared to November of the previous year, overall manufacturing sales were 1.1% lower. When adjusted for inflation, real manufacturing sales dropped by 2.3% in November, while the Industrial Product Price Index increased by 0.9%.
