IMF raises Japan’s economic outlook, anticipates easing inflation
IMF Updates Japan’s Economic Outlook for 2026
The International Monetary Fund announced a modest upward revision to its projection for Japan’s economic growth in 2026, attributing the improvement to the government’s recent fiscal stimulus measures. According to the IMF’s latest World Economic Outlook, Japan’s economy is now anticipated to grow by 0.7% this year—an increase of 0.1 percentage point compared to the previous estimate, though still trailing the 1.1% growth expected in 2025. Looking ahead to 2027, the IMF forecasts a 0.6% expansion for Japan.
The report also indicated that Japan is likely to implement gradual policy rate hikes while maintaining supportive fiscal policies in the short term. The IMF expects inflation to ease in 2026 and gradually align with target levels.
