Glonghui January 21|Amazon is set to open its largest retail store ever, planning to build a large-scale physical outlet in the suburbs of Chicago, with a footprint surpassing that of a typical Walmart store. Amazon stated that in the large store planned for Orland Park, Illinois, about half of the space will be dedicated to selling groceries, everyday items such as diapers and paper towels, as well as freshly prepared meals. The other half will be used to handle both online and offline orders. The e-commerce giant has been trying for years to extend its online advantages into the physical retail sector but has yet to find a consistently successful formula. Amazon has closed dozens of its own branded stores and more than half of its Amazon Go cashierless retail stores. According to sources familiar with the matter, in addition to this location in Illinois, Amazon also plans to open other large stores across the United States.
