Fed likely to hold interest rates steady as Chair Powell shifts focus to economic matters
Federal Reserve Poised for Steady Approach on Interest Rates
Following two weeks marked by significant political and legal attention, the Federal Reserve aims to keep this week’s meeting focused and low-key, centering on interest rates. Despite these efforts, President Donald Trump is unlikely to be satisfied with the outcome. The central bank’s policy committee is widely expected to maintain its primary short-term interest rate at approximately 3.6%, following three consecutive quarter-point reductions last year. After the December meeting, Fed Chair Jerome Powell indicated that the committee was in a strong position to observe how the economy develops before considering any additional changes.
