Mining stocks fall as silver prices drop, metal market volatility intensifies

Glonghui, January 30｜London-listed mining stocks declined due to a drop in silver prices, as volatility in the metals market intensified. Swissquote Bank analyst Ipek Ozkardeskaya pointed out that the price pullback is likely to be seen as an opportunity to strengthen long positions, as the main drivers pushing metals higher remain fully intact. She added that these drivers include: the unsustainable yet still rising debt of the G7 group, the weakening appeal of the US dollar, trade and geopolitical uncertainties, the search for super-sovereign assets that can preserve value amid further geopolitical turmoil, and the potential for rising price pressures. Hochschild Mining shares fell 4.9%, while Fresnillo and Glencore dropped 4.4% and 2.8%, respectively.
