Euro area jobless rate stands at 6.2%
Euro Area and EU Unemployment Rates in December 2025
According to Eurostat, the statistical authority of the European Union, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area fell to 6.2% in December 2025, an improvement from 6.3% recorded in both November 2025 and December 2024. Across the European Union as a whole, the unemployment rate remained steady at 5.9% in December 2025, showing no change from the previous month or from December of the prior year.
Eurostat reports that there were approximately 13.043 million unemployed individuals in the EU during December 2025, with 10.792 million of them residing in the euro area. Compared to November 2025, the number of unemployed people declined by 94,000 in the EU and by 61,000 within the euro area.
