Argentex Group’s Derivatives Clients Face Heavy Losses After Firm’s Collapse
According to Bloomberg, administrators managing the failed UK currency broker Argentex Group have terminated thousands of ongoing derivatives contracts. As a result, the majority of counterparties are now facing losses of up to 98% on positions that had previously been in their favor.
FRP Advisory Group, which is overseeing the liquidation of Argentex, recently sent out "disclaimer notices" to clients involved in the company’s volatile foreign exchange derivatives portfolio—a key factor in Argentex’s collapse in July. This legal action, permitted under UK insolvency law, enables administrators to exit contracts considered excessively burdensome, leading to significant financial setbacks for clients while helping to resolve the company’s outstanding obligations.
