Bitcoin Surges as Institutional Appetite Clashes with Individual Fear

Bitcoin, the flagship of the cryptocurrency market, experienced a sharp pullback exceeding 11% last week, testing levels around $60,000 before reversing its course upwards. Over the weekend, the digital asset climbed to $71,000, though it failed to maintain its footing there. Despite market turbulence, institutional investors remain eager, as evidenced by a $371 million fresh capital influx into spot Bitcoin ETFs, suggesting they view this drop as a “second chance.”

Institutional Appetite Versus Individual Fear

In this chaotic environment, searches for “capitulation” have peaked, revealing a stark strategy difference between professional fund managers and small investors. As Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley highlighted, veteran market participants remain uncertain, while new institutional players view previously missed price levels as buying opportunities. This scenario indicates that selling pressure is paving the way for ownership to change hands in the market.

The Coinbase Premium Index, which measures U.S. investor sentiment, turning positive for the first time in months, is a significant signal of institutional buying appetite. Growing interest in the term “crypto capitulation” on social media suggests the market is entering an excessively pessimistic phase, often a precursor to market bottoms. Value investors are using this climate of fear as leverage to expand their portfolios.

Conversely, despite this selective risk appetite, a massive capital flow into safe havens outside cryptocurrency is also occurring. Gold prices surpassing the $5,000 barrier again and major players like Tether increasing their gold reserves to $23 billion highlight global market uncertainties. Particularly, the Chinese Central Bank’s accumulation efforts symbolize a shield against a weakening U.S. dollar.

Political Shifts in Japan and Global Market Impact

Another critical element of volatility in the crypto ecosystem stems from macroeconomic news from the Far East. In Japan, the ruling party’s overwhelming victory in early general elections brought Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s low interest and high fiscal spending promises to the forefront. This political landscape has caused Japanese government bond yields to rise and affected the famous “yen carry trade” mechanism, exerting pressure on risky assets.

The potential dissolution of this financial structure triggers the possibility of a massive overseas investment of around $5 trillion returning to Japan. This large capital mobility holds the potential to create liquidity constraints across a wide range of sectors, from tech stocks to cryptocurrencies. While investors attempt to take advantage of local dips in Bitcoin, they also strive to manage the risks posed by these structural shifts in the global financial system.

Bitcoin exhibiting a more resilient stance compared to a 13.5% overall collapse in the CD20 index indicates the asset’s maturity phase. However, the speed of liquidity movements originating from Japan and institutional entries will be crucial in determining whether the price can permanently break through the $71,000 resistance in the coming days. Giants making strategic moves continue to fill the gap left by individual fear.

JPMorgan believes that open-source models are not a threat, regulatory disruptions are only short-term, and cloud vendors’ leverage remains low—the fundamentals of computing power investment have not changed. It forecasts that the capital expenditure of the seven major tech giants will soar from $443 billion in 2025 to $1.577 trillion in 2027, with semiconductor equipment becoming the core bottleneck of the supply chain and a new round of price increases expected in wafer foundry and advanced packaging.

Micron executive: Storage determines AI limits, substantial new capacity will come after 2028

Micron executive Sumit Sadana stated that memory bandwidth and capacity have become the core factors determining the performance ceiling of AI systems. In the face of structural imbalances between supply and demand, Micron expects to increase capital expenditure to over $45 billion in fiscal year 2027, but due to process complexity, substantive new capacity will not be released until 2028. Additionally, long-term supply agreements are reshaping the industry's business model, and humanoid robots will trigger the next wave of massive demand.

Goldman Sachs warns top clients: AI momentum trading shows unprecedented cracks, recommends hedging

Goldman Sachs has issued a rare warning to top clients: deep structural cracks are emerging in AI momentum.
