Glonghui, February 10th — According to CCTV, Amundi, the largest asset management institution in Europe, stated that the company will continue to reduce its risk exposure to US dollar assets and shift towards Europe and emerging markets. Amundi CEO Valérie Baudson said that in the coming year, Amundi will advise clients to reduce their holdings of US dollar assets. She warned that if US economic policies do not change, “we will continue to see the US dollar weaken.” Baudson said, “Over the past 12 to 15 months, Amundi has been vigorously promoting investment diversification and advising clients to diversify their investments... In the coming year, we will continue to recommend clients achieve portfolio diversification.” Amundi has become the latest large investment institution to clearly state that it will reduce or hedge its risk exposure to US assets. Sweden’s largest private pension fund, Alecta, said in January that, given the “unpredictability of the US government and the growing US debt,” the fund had sold most of its US Treasury holdings over the past year. Baudson said that over the past year, international investors initially hedged against the risk of US dollar depreciation by purchasing gold, which largely explains the significant rise in gold prices during the same period. The company subsequently found that people wanted to diversify their investments to achieve asset diversification, as there was an issue of over-investment in US dollar assets. Reportedly, these capital flows have driven funds into European and emerging market assets, including bonds and stocks. Last year, emerging market stock markets had their best performance since 2017.
