Why haven’t tariffs devastated the world economy? Understanding the mystery behind global resilience
Reflecting on the Past Year: Economic Shifts and Surprising Outcomes
As each new year begins, it's important to pause and reflect on recent developments. Over the past year, the world has seen a notable rise in trade barriers, with tariffs becoming a regular aspect of international commerce rather than a thing of the past. Many anticipated that these changes would slow economic growth and push inflation higher. However, the actual impact has been less severe than expected.
Initially, projections for 2025 suggested the US economy would expand by 2.4%, while global growth was set at 3.2%. Following the introduction of new tariffs, these estimates were adjusted downward to 1.6% for the US and 3% for the world. Despite these revisions, the anticipated negative effects have not fully materialized.
