Australian and New Zealand Dollars Maintain Upward Momentum

On Friday, both the Australian and New Zealand dollars appeared poised to secure their fifth consecutive week of gains, supported by attractive yield advantages that continued to draw investors. However, a downturn in U.S. tech stocks created headwinds for overall risk appetite. The Australian dollar remained steady at $0.7089 after declining 0.5% overnight, retreating from a recent three-year peak of $0.71465. Meanwhile, the New Zealand dollar was stable at $0.6036, reflecting a 0.2% increase for the week.

Despite some volatility, the Australian dollar was still up 1.2% over the week, buoyed by widening yield differentials and a hawkish tone from the Reserve Bank of Australia regarding potential future rate hikes. Analysts noted that the central bank’s policy stance had shifted, further supporting the currency’s strength.
