Linea will migrate to the RISC-V architecture

Foresight News reports that the Ethereum L2 project Linea announced on Twitter that its cryptography researcher Alexandre Belling revealed at Ethproofs that Linea will transition to the RISC-V architecture. The main reason is that every Ethereum hard fork requires a complete rewrite of the constraint module, causing the team to focus on managing complexity long-term rather than advancing cutting-edge performance. RISC-V offers only 32 registers and approximately 40 instructions. For proof systems, the narrower tracking range allows for real-time construction, and provers can immediately start processing proof segments. In addition, RISC-V provides a more concise execution trace and Type-1 compatibility, while retaining zkC (constraint native language), Vortex and Arcane (proof/aggregation stack), as well as formal verification.

Linea stated that this move is highly aligned with the RISC-V roadmap being promoted by the Ethereum Foundation, and more technical details will be announced in the coming weeks.
