According to the New York Federal Reserve's March consumer expectations survey, more American families are expecting their financial situation to decline over the coming year as prices for essentials like gasoline and groceries continue to climb. Last month, consumer sentiment took a downturn, influenced by the US-Israel conflict with Iran, which disrupted the global economy and pushed gas prices past $4 per gallon.
Short-term inflation forecasts increased, while optimism about wage growth diminished slightly. Additionally, concerns about a higher unemployment rate in the next year reached their highest point since last April, when President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs caused economic uncertainty.
