Australia’s Leading Economic Index Shows Strong Growth in Early 2026
In February 2026, the Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Australia advanced by 1.1%, reaching a level of 118.5 (with 2016 as the base year). This follows a modest 0.1% increase in January. Between August 2025 and January 2026, the LEI surged by 2.7%—more than twice the 1.2% growth seen in the previous six months from February to August 2025.
Meanwhile, the Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI) for Australia also moved upward, rising 0.2% in February 2026 to 119.8, after a similar 0.2% gain in January. Over the six months from August 2025 to February 2026, the CEI expanded by 1.4%, marking a faster pace compared to the 0.7% growth recorded in the prior half-year.
