Raoul Pal: Cryptocurrency is the "universal basic equity" in the era of AI, and within 5 years, agents will account for three-fifths of DeFi users
Foresight News reports that former Goldman Sachs executive and Real Vision co-founder and CEO Raoul Pal stated at the Miami Consensus 2026 conference, "Humanity is at an unprecedented tipping point in history. We are about to witness the emergence of AGI entities that are smarter, more adaptable, and more powerful than humans, while the capabilities of AI are currently more than doubling each year. By 2028, the annual output of AI-generated text will surpass the sum of all human output in history, and all of this will happen within five years."
After AI replaces labor on a large scale, the solution will not be traditional Universal Basic Income (UBI) but rather "Universal Basic Equity." "For the first time in human history, ordinary people will be able to directly own the foundational networks by holding crypto infrastructure tokens, and benefit in parallel as the Agent economy expands. The entry of institutions has not deviated from the spirit of crypto; in fact, it is the first time that anyone worldwide can stand on equal footing with firms like BlackRock to purchase BTC, ETH, and SOL." In the quickfire round, Pal said if he had to choose just one, he would choose Solana over Bitcoin, and expects that within five years, agents and humans will make up the main user groups of DeFi in a 3:2 ratio.
