US Vice President JD Vance says US ‘not there yet’ on an Iran deal
US Vice President JD Vance said that Washington was “not there yet” with Iran but he said the parties were close, the Guardian reported on Thursday. JD Vance added that the US was in a position where it could substantially set back Tehran’s nuclear program.
Earlier, Reuters reported that the US and Iran reached a tentative agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz and start nuclear talks, though US President Donald Trump has not signed off on it yet.
“It’s hard to say exactly when or if the president is going to sign the MOU. We’re going back and forth on a couple of language points,” Vance said. “I can’t guarantee that we’re going to get there, but right now I feel pretty good about it,” he added.
Market reaction
At the time of writing, the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is down 0.61% on the day at $87.15.
