According to a report by Crypto Briefing, the Georgian government has launched a large-scale electricity meter installation campaign in the Mestia region to combat illegal cryptocurrency mining. The Deputy Prime Minister announced on June 1 that the measures cover all villages in the Svaneti region and are being enforced in coordination with law enforcement agencies. In 2025, Mestia's electricity consumption is expected to reach 133 million kilowatt-hours, more than 13 times that of similar towns. Illegal mining causes annual energy losses of 20 million to 25 million GEL.
