Analyst Douglas Harned wrote in a report to clients: “Although from a valuation and budget trend perspective, the defense sector should be attractive, the biggest issue at present is that, prior to the election, we do not see any strong catalysts that could reignite defense stocks.” He pointed out that the recent decline in share prices is mainly due to sector rotation, as investors are shifting towards sectors with higher revenue growth opportunities. He noted that a political resolution on the Fiscal Year 2027 defense budget proposal could serve as a catalyst, but “such a budget is not expected to pass Congress easily.” In the meantime, defense stocks are likely to remain within a safe range at current valuation levels. The outlook remains optimistic for investment exposure in the space, missile, and missile defense sectors, which are seen as particularly attractive. Autonomous systems (unmanned systems) and counter-unmanned aircraft systems (Counter-UAS) are also key emerging areas where demand is growing.
