Grayscale Chief Legal Officer: It is unlikely that the ZEC vulnerability was exploited before it was fixed

Jinse Finance reports that on June 5, Grayscale Chief Legal Officer Craig Salm stated in a post that, from a non-technical perspective, to believe the ZEC vulnerability was exploited before it was fixed, you would have to believe: (1) someone studied the Zcash codebase more deeply than ECC, ZODL, Shielded Labs, the Zcash Foundation, and other core Zcash developers and security contributors combined; (2) someone resisted the temptation to drain the Orchard pool and sell all fake ZEC during a historic bull market with gains of over 20 times. In my view, this is highly unlikely. The real point is that the development and security community of Zcash is absolutely top-tier in the industry and is far ahead of all other protocols in addressing AI risks. Given the capabilities of models now, AI risks will inevitably affect all protocols. Of course, if a network upgrade were implemented to allow anyone to verify the integrity of Zcash’s supply and prove that there are no fake Zcash tokens in the Orchard pool, that would be even better.
