The core reason for this recall is that the driver's seatbelt "emergency locking retractor" in the affected vehicles may experience unintentional locking, causing the seatbelt webbing to fail to extend properly. In the event of a collision, a seatbelt that cannot extend and retract as intended will not be able to effectively restrain occupants, significantly increasing the risk of injury.
