ANZ: Markets unwilling to overly test the Bank of Japan ahead of Nonfarm Payrolls

Golden Ten Data reported on June 5 that on Friday, the yen tested the 160 level, triggering strong warnings from Japanese officials, while the US dollar remained stable ahead of the release of key US employment data. At the same time, Middle East tensions are supporting demand for safe-haven funds. The Head of Asian Research at ANZ Bank stated: “Before the release of the US nonfarm payroll report, the market may be reluctant to excessively test the Bank of Japan.” Despite intervention risks, investors have recently built the largest yen short positions since July 2024.
