The price of Bitcoin (BTC) registered a strong recovery this Thursday and returned to trading above US$64, after having retreated to near US$61 overnight. The leading cryptocurrency in the market reached US$64.200 in the middle of the morning session in the US, accumulating an appreciation of approximately 5% from its recent low.
The move comes after days of pressure on the market. Recent data indicated that about half of the bitcoins in circulation were being held at a loss, while Strategy faced unrealized losses estimated at around US$12 billion in its Bitcoin reserves. These factors helped amplify the pessimistic sentiment among investors and traders.
Even in this context, the market began to revise some of the concerns related to Strategy. STRC preferred shares, which had fallen to US$94 on Wednesday, rose to US$96,15. The performance of these shares has been closely watched by investors due to the company's high dividend cost.
With over $15 billion issued in preferred stock, the company currently pays out nearly $1,8 billion annually in dividends. This cost led Michael Saylor and his team to conduct a market test by selling 32 BTC last week.
The operation generated speculation that the company might need to liquidate a larger amount of bitcoins in the future to support its financial commitments. However, the positive reaction of the company's shares helped alleviate some of these concerns. Strategy's common shares advanced about 3,4% during the trading session.
Meanwhile, the technology sector faced the opposite trend. Broadcom's shares suffered heavy pressure in pre-market trading, falling approximately 15% after the release of financial results and artificial intelligence projections that fell short of investors' most optimistic expectations.
The sell-off spread across the semiconductor segment. AMD shares fell about 4%, while Micron Technology retreated approximately 5%. Nvidia, Marvell Technology, and Intel also registered losses.
The weakness also affected companies that previously operated in Bitcoin mining and migrated part of their operations to artificial intelligence infrastructure. Hut 8, IREN, and Cipher Mining showed declines of close to 5% in pre-market trading.
With pressure mounting on AI-related stocks, some capital has returned to seeking exposure to Bitcoin. After touching levels near $61, the cryptocurrency began a consistent recovery and is now trading again in the $64 region, reducing losses accumulated in recent days and attracting the attention of market participants.
