Chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Mike Selig, clarified misconceptions about perpetual futures contracts in a post on platform X, stating that neither the Commodity Exchange Act nor the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission's regulations require futures contracts to have a fixed expiration or delivery date. The relevant criteria are determined by case law and Commission interpretation. Regarding misconceptions about high leverage, Mike Selig responded to views concerning the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission's approval of BTCPERP contracts allowing Americans to use 250x leverage.
