Chris Turner of ING stated in a report that if the Swiss National Bank keeps interest rates at 0% on Thursday and signals it will maintain rates at this level for an extended period, the Swiss franc may edge lower against the euro. He said that Switzerland's low inflation means the Swiss National Bank is not as eager as some other central banks to tighten policy. He also noted that, since the Iran war, the Swiss National Bank has shown a greater willingness to intervene to curb the strength of the franc, and data from June 30 may reveal a rise in foreign exchange purchases in the first quarter. He added that if the European Central Bank raises rates again in July and September, the franc also faces downside risks.
