Foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury bonds reach 9.35 trillion dollars, setting the second-highest record in history
BlockBeats reports that on June 21, the amount of US Treasury bonds held by foreign entities increased by $3.9 billion in April, reaching $9.35 trillion, marking the second highest level in history.
Japan, as the largest foreign holder of US Treasuries, increased its holdings by $18.3 billion to $1.21 trillion, the highest since February;
The United Kingdom, the second largest holder, increased its holdings by $10.6 billion, reaching a record $937.5 billion;
China, as the third largest holder, reduced its holdings by $1.2 billion to $651.1 billion, the lowest since September 2008;
Meanwhile, Canada, the seventh largest foreign holder, reduced its holdings by $42.3 billion to $397.1 billion, the lowest since January.
The US Treasury bond market is growing but remains fragmented.
