Golden Finance, June 23—A judge from the U.S. National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has ruled that Amazon must engage in collective bargaining with warehouse workers in California. Previously, the Teamsters union gained majority support from employees at a San Francisco distribution center in 2024, but Amazon refused to recognize the union. This ruling is based on the precedent set during the Biden administration by the NLRB in the “Cemex Construction Materials Pacific LLC” case. According to the rules established in the “Cemex” case, if a union gains clear majority support from employees, the company must take one of two actions: either recognize the union and negotiate with it, or request the NLRB to verify the union’s level of support. The judge pointed out that Amazon neither recognized nor bargained with the union, nor did it request verification.
