Why is Anthropic always in the spotlight? Because it understands the real truth behind this round of AI "investment" better than anyone else
There are people in this world who say, "This thing has a quarter chance of killing us all," yet they keep stepping on the gas and refuse to slow down for a second. These people are either crazy, or they see something others don't.
Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, is one of those people.
September 2025, Washington, Axios AI+ Summit. The host asked him a favorite question among insiders: What do you think is the probability that AI will bring disaster to humanity?
He said 25%.
And then he added, "If a plane had a 25% chance of crashing, you wouldn't get on that plane."
But the thing is, Amodei not only got on that plane, he’s working hard as the pilot and pushing the throttle all the way. Nine months after saying this, at the end of May 2026, Anthropic completed a $65 billion Series H funding round, pushing its valuation close to a trillion. On June 1st, it secretly submitted an IPO draft to the SEC.
The contradiction here is clear at a glance: a person openly claims that what he has built has a one-in-four chance of destroying civilization, and then immediately puts the company on a trajectory towards a trillion-dollar valuation, racing ahead more aggressively than anyone else. If he truly believed that, why doesn't he get off or hit the brakes?
If you can't figure out this question, you won't understand Anthropic, nor will you understand today's AI "investment".

Hedge funds have just rebuilt tech long positions, but Nasdaq's key support has begun to weaken
The Nasdaq 100 Index is approaching the lower boundary of its months-long consolidation range, with futures breaking below the uptrend line and the 100-day moving average, signaling technical weakness. Hedge funds had previously made substantial purchases of tech stocks, leading to concentrated positions that amplify downside risks. AI safety controversies and energy supply risks now serve as dual catalysts. If key support levels are lost while market panic remains subdued, volatility may be subject to a reassessment.
