Tencent reportedly plans to withdraw investments from several Japanese game studios; Tencent states it remains focused on the Japanese gaming market for the long term

Sources reveal that Tencent is currently evaluating its minority stakes in overseas studios one by one. For assets whose synergistic value has disappeared or whose returns have fallen short of expectations, Tencent is reportedly willing to sell these stakes back to the original management teams at a discount, even at a loss, to complete its exit. In response to these moves, Tencent stated: “Gaming is one of Tencent’s core businesses.
