South Korea's Largest Investment Plan in History Incoming? Samsung and SK Hynix May Join Forces to Invest 200 Trillion KRW

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung presided over the launch event of the "Three Major Super Projects," announcing large-scale project plans in the fields of chips, physical AI, and AI data centers. Lee Jae-myung stated that South Korea needs to accelerate the construction of chip production bases to meet demand. Existing factory sites are approaching their limits in terms of water resources and other infrastructure. Chip supply capacity in the southwest region will be expanded through investments. New projects in the southwest region will receive investments ranging from 5 to 20 trillion KRW. Gwangju and Jeolla regions may see investments of up to 52 trillion KRW in these projects. Previously, according to Korea Economic Daily, Samsung Group and SK Group are preparing to announce up to 200 trillion KRW ($130 billion) of new investments over the next decade.
