Canton Network mainnet launches “Logic Synchronizer Upgrade", enabling automatic seamless protocol switching through the upgrade.
Foresight News reports that Canton Network has announced, with the release of Canton version 3.5, the Logical Synchronizer Upgrades (LSU) are now live on the mainnet. This mechanism allows the new version synchronizer infrastructure to run in parallel with the existing network, enabling an automatic transition during network switchovers, which takes only a few seconds to a few minutes. Data migration or reloading is not required, and applications can continue to operate normally throughout the process.
Specifically, synchronizer operators will deploy the next-generation synchronizer nodes and run them in parallel with the old version before the upgrade; validators will install the new software within the upgrade window, with the new software supporting both the old and new protocol versions to ensure uninterrupted message processing before and after the switch. Then, an on-chain governance proposal will schedule the upgrade time, the logical synchronizer will send a switch signal to validators, and validators will automatically switch and verify consistency upon detecting the new synchronizer. Applications will continue to run under the same logical synchronizer identity. The old version infrastructure will be phased out after a 30-day retention period.
Canton Network stated that, since the mainnet launch in 2024, it has completed four protocol version upgrades. The new LSU mechanism aims to reduce maintenance burdens for super validators and validators, making protocol upgrades and maintenance routine operations, and minimizing impact on application developers and end users. This mechanism will lay the groundwork for upcoming features over the next 6 to 12 months, including planned token standard upgrades, BFT consensus upgrades and scaling, decentralized party management and validation services, and enhanced asset discovery capabilities.
