Odaily reports that blockchain analytics company Chainalysis has released a new methodology proposal, aiming to establish a unified on-chain fund tracking standard framework for law enforcement agencies and investigators to identify address clusters and assess their possible control relationships.

This proposal defines on-chain analytics structure in the form of an "ontology". Its core lies in systematically breaking down the "cluster" (address clustering) concept, which currently lacks unified standards in the industry, by segmenting wallets and functional roles, and describing on-chain relationships through a two-layered structure: the first layer defines the transaction graph structure, and the second layer evaluates the confidence level of inferences.

Chainalysis stated that this framework aims to improve the interpretability and legal applicability of on-chain forensic methods, and is designed and validated based on its practical experience in related cases with the US Department of Justice, including analytical applications in the Bitcoin Fog mixing service case. The company’s Chief Scientist Jacob Illum pointed out that the goal of the proposal is to answer "on what evidential basis can these addresses be considered as belonging to the same entity", but also emphasized that on-chain analytics alone cannot directly identify end user identities and still require legal investigative tools of centralized entities such as exchanges.

Chainalysis indicated that the proposed standard is currently open for industry discussion, hoping to promote the formation of a more unified technical specification for on-chain analysis methods in law enforcement and compliance fields. (CoinDesk)
