Pakistan State Oil tenders to procure LNG as Qatari supply is disrupted

Pakistan State Oil has issued an emergency tender to purchase one LNG shipment for delivery between July 15 and 16, with the bidding deadline set for Friday. The cancellation of Qatar’s originally scheduled cargo for this month led to the approval of Pakistan State Oil’s tender. U.S. strikes against Iran for two consecutive days have caused shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to stall, with a vessel carrying Qatari gas to Pakistan stopping its voyage earlier this week. Pakistan obtains nearly all LNG through long-term contracts with Qatar and has faced energy shortages since the Middle Eastern conflict began in late February, recently buying two spot cargoes to fill the supply gap.
