Vacancy of CFTC commissioner becomes an obstacle to the progress of the Clarity Act, as the White House and Democrats blame each other
Odaily reported that the White House sent a letter to Senate bipartisan leaders in response to Democratic criticism regarding the Trump administration's refusal to appoint CFTC commissioners. Currently, only the Republican chairman, Michael Selig, serves among the five CFTC commissioner seats. If the Clarity Act passes, the CFTC will become the primary regulatory agency for crypto assets. The White House stated that it had requested a list of nominees for the SEC and CFTC from the Democrats but received no response, and accused the Democrats of obstructing nominations. Previously, the Democrats criticized Trump for attempting to monopolize control of the CFTC. The White House also cited a recent Supreme Court ruling, stating that the president has the authority to dismiss the heads of independent agencies.
