Glonghui, July 10 | Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that among the AI industry professionals he knows, no one believes they have excess computing power, and Meta has not overbuilt—currently, all available computing power is being fully utilized. In an interview with foreign media, Zuckerberg said that Meta needs as much computing resource as possible. However, as demand for AI development and operations far outpaces supply, he is considering whether leasing part of Meta's AI infrastructure to external customers could create more value. He noted that current market prices for computing power are very high. In some cases, instead of keeping it for internal use, renting it out or considering similar deals might be more cost-effective. Zuckerberg cited SpaceX as a compelling example. According to reports, SpaceX has leased its large data center in Memphis to Anthropic and has reached an agreement with Google. Zuckerberg stated that such short-term premium deals are worth considering. Earlier, news outlets reported that Meta is planning to launch a cloud computing business, aiming to generate direct revenue by leveraging the company’s data centers and other computing power partners. In response, Zuckerberg stated that the opportunity to develop a cloud business is always available, and Meta can enter whenever it chooses. However, he emphasized that this does not mean Meta has overbuilt or has idle computing power, stressing that Meta is currently utilizing all its available resources.
