The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claims to have fired a warning shot at a violating vessel; the Hormuz Strait is temporarily closed.

Jinse Finance reported on July 12 that, according to CCTV, in the early hours of July 12 local time, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy of Iran issued a statement saying that warning shots were fired at a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement noted that several vessels attempted to deviate from their approved routes, ignored Iranian warnings and reminders, and refused to adjust course or navigate according to regulations. One vessel, which had shut down its own systems and endangered maritime safety, was subjected to warning shots and forced to stop. The statement indicated that, as this unsafe situation was “caused by the illegal intervention of foreign forces,” the Strait of Hormuz would be temporarily closed until further notice. No ships will be allowed passage until the United States ends its intervention in the region. Furthermore, should “aggressors” use this incident as a pretext to take wrongful action or attack Iran again, Iran will respond with greater force and strike new enemy military bases in the region.
