CFTC Position Report: Bullish Investors Withdraw from Precious Metals and Crude Oil, US Treasury Shorts Reach New Highs

Huitong Finance, July 11 — According to data from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), for the week ending July 7, COMEX gold speculators reduced their net long positions by 1,964 contracts to 114,854 contracts. COMEX silver speculators reduced their net long positions by 616 contracts to 12,131 contracts. COMEX copper speculators reduced their net long positions by 970 contracts to 60,397 contracts.



According to data from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), for the week ending July 7, COMEX gold speculators reduced their net long positions by 1,964 contracts to 114,854 contracts. COMEX silver speculators reduced their net long positions by 616 contracts to 12,131 contracts. COMEX copper speculators reduced their net long positions by 970 contracts to 60,397 contracts.

For the week ending July 7, crude oil speculators reduced their WTI crude oil net long positions by 19,507 contracts to 65,681 contracts. Speculators on the four major natural gas markets (NYMEX and ICE) reduced their net long positions by 1,597 contracts to 7,366 contracts.

As of the week ending July 7, the net short position in JPY was 123,778 contracts. The net short position in EUR was 16,227 contracts. The net short position in GBP was 87,903 contracts. The net short position in CHF was 37,414 contracts.

As of the week ending July 7, speculators increased their CBOT US Treasury futures net short positions by 52,811 contracts to 143,591 contracts. Speculators increased their net short positions in CBOT 5-year US Treasury futures by 38,606 contracts to 1,359,116 contracts. Speculators increased their net short positions in CBOT ultra long-term US Treasury futures by 21,150 contracts to 307,819 contracts.

Speculators increased their CBOT 10-year US Treasury futures net short positions by 5,371 contracts to 814,262 contracts. Speculators reduced their CBOT 2-year US Treasury futures net short positions by 26,573 contracts to 1,261,008 contracts.

As of the week ending July 7, CBOT wheat speculators reduced their net short positions by 7,734 contracts to 69,603 contracts; CBOT corn speculators reduced their net short positions by 38,007 contracts to 67,411 contracts; CBOT soybean speculators increased their holdings by 9,684 contracts, turning into net long positions, with an additional 45,451 contracts.

As of the week ending July 7, cotton speculators increased their net long positions by 13,880 contracts to 68,392 contracts; ICE cocoa speculators reduced their net short positions by 2,419 contracts to 22,378 contracts; ICE sugar speculators reduced their net short positions by 34,618 contracts to 63,952 contracts; ICE coffee speculators increased their net long positions by 2,075 contracts to 10,223 contracts.
