Golden Ten Data reported on July 15 that, as demand continues to shrink and adverse weather suppresses production, Australia, one of the world's largest wine producers, is facing its smallest wine grape harvest in over 25 years. A report released by the Australian Grape & Wine on Wednesday indicated that Australia’s wine grape crush for 2026 is expected to be 1.27 million tons, down 19% year-on-year and about a quarter lower than the ten-year average. The annual output value of wine fell 26% year-on-year to 837 million Australian dollars. The global wine industry is still struggling to adapt to the weak demand environment. Over the past five years, the market value of publicly listed global alcoholic beverage producers has evaporated by approximately 800 billion US dollars. Peter Bailey, Market Insights Manager at Australian Grape & Wine, stated: "Wine grape harvests have been below the long-term average for four consecutive years, indicating that wine producers are undergoing a structural adjustment in grape production to meet changes in global demand." Adverse weather has further exacerbated the industry's difficulties. The association noted that respondents to the national wine vintage survey reported that multiple regions were hit by extreme weather such as late frosts, heatwaves, and floods, resulting in reduced grape yields.
