Novo Nordisk's Wegovy® tablets (semaglutide tablets) approved by the European Union

Glonghui, July 20 — Novo Nordisk recently announced that the European Commission (EC) has granted marketing authorization for Wegovy® tablets (once-daily semaglutide tablets 25 mg), as an adjunct to reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, for the treatment of obesity (BMI ≥30kg/m²) or overweight (BMI ≥27kg/m²) adults with at least one weight-related comorbidity. This approval of Wegovy® tablets marks an important milestone in the field of obesity treatment in Europe, making it the first tablet-form GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for weight management in all EU member states. This approval also makes Wegovy® tablets the fifth market globally to receive registration approval, following the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.
