Hackers breached the website of the President of Kenya and demanded a ransom of 5 Bitcoin; law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation.
ChainCatcher reports, according to News.bitcoin, the Kenyan government is investigating an incident in which the official website of President William Ruto was hacked; the attackers temporarily paralyzed the website, altered the homepage content, and demanded a ransom of 5 Bitcoin.
William Kabogo, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, stated that Kenyan law enforcement agency ICT Authority immediately initiated a cybersecurity response protocol. In order to control the incident and carry out a forensic investigation, public access to the portal will be temporarily restricted. Currently, there is no evidence of unauthorized access to sensitive data, data leakage, or information loss, and government systems and digital services remain operating securely.
